RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
With our worldwide network partners, we grow a symbiotic system to work constantly in the field of research and development at the cutting edge of technology and to develop our know-how continually with new innovations.
We can not publish all of our research projects and details of the works on our site for security reasons.
Holographic Rainbow projection
in the foyer of the Federal Ministry for Education & Research of Germany
In cooperation with the IPK Fraunhofer Institute Berlin we could realize the lens elements for an art project " Art in architecture " for the new BMBF-Building at Kapelle- Ufer 1 in Berlin by the method of ultra-precision machining and mold stamping.
To disassemble the white light of the full-spectrum LED in the color spectrum of a rainbow, the optical elements should have a blazed grating structure, which is made as a cyclic sequence of sawtooth in nanometer range.
To realize this, the laboratory wing of the Fraunhofer IPK has to work on a specially modified LT - Ultra ultra-precision manufacturing plant to produce the replication master, which could reflect the 40.000 optical structures of the blaze grating suitable for the subsequent injection molding process of the macro optical body.
The artwork " Virtual Sculpture Untitled " won in the competition " Art in architecture " and the artist group around Boran Burchardt , Andreas Lippke and Marcel Stammen entrusted us with the realization of the optical elements.
The end of global plastic waste pollution?
The development of a completely biodegradable plastic could make it possible!
BIO plastic - PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate)
a polymer from vegetable and animal by-products, as well as other biogenic residues from the food industry.
We are currently working particularly intensively on the development of environmentally compatible films and polymers and the innovative technologies for their production.
The focus and goal of our research and development are completely recyclable and 100% biodegradable materials that can be used economically by the manufacturing industry in the current systems of cast and blow film extrusion, as well as in injection molding processes without additional conversion measures.
The first successful PHA Cast film extrusion is proof of the film extrudability of the modified Basis PHA.
The result opens the way for further steps in the flexible packaging film market based on a 100% biodegradable and naturally compostable PHA bio-polymer.
The film extrudability of the modified PHA was hereby proven on the basis of a continuous cast film extrusion in a thickness between approx. 40µ - 150µ.
Ultra Hard embossing tool
for imprinting holographic structures in hard metals
The aim of this research project is to produce an ultra hard stamping tool, which can be used to protect items against plagiarism in the industry.
The surface of the embossing-die has finally a hardness of HV 1900 - 2300, which is sufficient to emboss holographic structures, in the lateral region of 400 - 800 nm - at a wavelength-depending spatial frequency of 1280 to 2630 lines / mm, directly in metals.
This technique can be transferred to any stamper, which should be strengthened by extreme durability in its quality.
Light concentrators for photovoltaics
With light concentrators the efficiency of solar modules can be demonstrably increased. We have already demonstrated this in a feasibility study entitled "Strip-shaped concentrators for broadband radiation for local efficiency enhancement of the illumination intensity while at the same time reducing the required area of the mono- or polycrystalline silicon". However, due to the current production advantages in competition from foreign companies, the implementation was stopped. Ecologically and sustainably, the realization of the project would be a great step forward!
